Document Date

Specifying a date or date range allows users to restrict the assigned date to a document being searched on.

For most documents this is the year to which the document refers and not the year it was published. Thus the Third Annual Report of the Registrar General was published in 1841, but refers primarily to the year 1 July 1839 to 30 June 1840. Restricting the date here to 1841 will not return this report.

Dates in this dialogue box can be entered as a complete year, e.g., 1801, a series of years, e.g., 1801, 1811, 1821 where each year is separated by a comma, or as a date span, e.g., 1839-1841.
